Pier and Beam Foundation

Deep Foundations
When building on sand and other soft soils which cannot absorb the load of a building, deep foundations are required. Rather, a base must be placed deep underground or even underwater where communication can be formed with the stronger layers of the earth.
For example, bridges, piers, and barrages must lay underwater foundations while maintaining structural integrity. Here strong foundations are key to the building of large structures.
Shallow Foundation
A shallow foundation is usually greater than a deeper base. Founder shallow may also be referred to as footings spread or free.
The shallow foundations in these two forms are the cheaper for obvious reasons. It doesn't take much for them to dig or boring the earth and they are the most frequent for that purpose.
The soil will hold large amounts of weight at shallow depths, if the building isn't overly heavy.
